our Story
Desert Provisions was born in Tucson, Arizona in 2017 and co-founded by Amanda Horton and Alex Bradspies. Amanda and Alex met in Portland, Oregon where they both lived for 12+ years and became good friends after moving to Tucson (fondly known as the Old Pueblo) in 2015 to work for the University of Arizona. Neither fancied themselves desert dwellers, but quickly fell in love with the magical allure of Tucson and the desert southwest. After months of drying and milling chiles in their respective kitchens and thoughtfully packaging for friends and family for gifts, they decided to explore how to take their passion to the masses. They both wanted to be able to share the special and unique elements of the desert with the rest of the world. Desert Provisions is the result of their love for good food that’s all-natural, locally sourced, tastes great, and is well-packaged and designed.
Desert Provisions is a woman-owned business.
Desert Provisions plans to expand to other desert-harvested products from the Sonoran Desert and beyond in the future. Stay in touch for what’s next!
Our Team
Amanda (she/her)
Amanda is a lover of the outdoors, adventure beers, sparkling drinks, and the culprit of countless projects. She loves to host, make food, and experiment in the kitchen. She hasn’t met a little spoon or ceramic serving dish she didn’t like. Amanda was born and raised in the Willamette Valley in Oregon and currently lives in Tucson, but is often found in the wilds of Portland and Bend, Oregon. She is the sole owner of Desert Provisions and manages all the day-to-day goings on.
Liz (she/her)
Liz is a desert native, animal lover, mom, and big fan of anything cheese. She is in charge of bringing Desert Provisions products to new markets, managing wholesale accounts, and creatively partnering with our community. When she isn't spreading the salty/spicy word, you can find her baking bread, practicing yoga, or exploring nature with her 6 year old daughter.
Claire (she/her)
A homebody at heart, Claire also enjoys exploring quiet nature spots and checking out all of Tucson's amazing eateries and small businesses. At Desert Provisions, she oversees production and warehouse operations, ensuring your orders are held up to our very high standard and packed with care. Beyond her role here, Claire pours her creativity into her ceramic small business, Marigold Fontana Ceramics, and treasures time spent with her partner and their little dog, Indigo.
