Sonoran Whiskey Paloma
Palomas are traditionally made with tequila or mezcal, but we’ve shaken things up a bit with this beverage using a smoky whiskey. All the basic elements are the same - you’ve got your citrus, grapefruit soda, and spirit! We like the smoky flavor of this whiskey, but if you don’t have whiskey, feel free to use a more traditional spirit like mezcal or tequila.
Takes: 15 minutes
makes one 6oz drink
2 oz whiskey (Whiskey Del Bac Dorado is what we prefer)
1 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
½ oz freshly squeezed orange juice (optional)
½ oz freshly squeezed lime juice
About 2 oz grapefruit soda or sparkling water
Orange, lime, or grapefruit wedge to garnish (or all three!)
Desert Provisions x Whiskey Del Bac Whiskey Salt, to rim (or Sonoran Sea Salt or Hatch Red Chile Salt)
Rim glass with lime and Desert Provisions x Whiskey Del Bac Whiskey Salt. (If you don’t have whiskey salt, use our Sonoran Sea Salt or Hatch Red Chile Salt for a spicy version.) Combine whiskey, grapefruit juice, orange juice, lime juice into cocktail shaker with ice - shake vigorously to combine. Strain and pour into cocktail glass leaving a bit of room to top with grapefruit soda or sparkling water. Garnish with citrus wheel or wedge.
Cook's notes: If you’re not a whiskey drinker, feel free to resort to your trusty and more classic favorites like mezcal or tequila.
